The Butte College Foundation celebrated its annual Scholarship Awards Reception Wednesday, Aug. 17 at Chico Elks Lodge. Donors, trustees, board members, staff and students attended the reception.
Presenters awarded 300 scholarships totaling more than $237,000 during the event. An additional $18,000 in Foundation scholarships was awarded to students from our Law Enforcement, Firefighter and California State Parks Academy students at separate ceremonies.
“Butte College serves 12,000 students a year, and many rely on scholarships or grants to succeed in college,” said Butte College President Virginia Guleff. “In some cases, these scholarships may be the tipping point to whether a student stays or drops out of college. We’re so grateful for our donors who create scholarships to help our students.”
In addition to internal scholarships, the Foundation works with the local community to help distribute another $250,000 in outside scholarships and grants to Butte College students annually. All told, the Foundation helps over 600 students a year.
The Foundation exists to support Butte College students, programs and staff through grants, endowments, donations and scholarships.
