Butte College outside linebacker Elijah O'Neal officially committed to play division one football for Arizona State University. O'Neal signed his letter of intent at a ceremony held on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Butte College's Kinesiology and Athletic Performance Center.
"It's always been a dream of mine to go to a division 1 football program, and especially the Pac-12," O'Neal said. He said choosing ASU was difficult because his family has a history with Washington State Athletics — Both of his parents and his sister attended Washington State. Ultimately, he felt ASU was the right choice because he could be more impactful as a Sun Devil.
O'Neal finished the 2022 season second in the state for sacks and sack yards while tallying 66 tackles, 43 solo. He counted 104 yards on his 14.5 sacks while earning 26 total tackles for loss for 135 yards and forced a pair of fumbles. O'Neal was named All-California District I and First-Team All-American by the California Community College Football Coaches Association.
